All Rockland County Branch Classes are taught by Richard Iannuzzi

THE HEART OF OUR PRACTICE

The foundation of our practice is Professor Cheng Man-ch'ing's "simplified" 37 posture Yang Style TaiChi Hand Form: mindful, choreographed movements that cultivate balance, harmony, relaxation, stability, power, and body awareness. TaiChi is a whole-being art grounded in the understanding that body/mind/spirit are not separate.

The essence of our TaiChi is softness - in other words: loose, flexible, relaxed, fluid. The opposite of such softness may be summarized by the word tension. Tension for the TaiChi player is any unnecessary force used to manipulate ourselves into position. The TaiChi way of letting go of tension promotes good circulation, benefiting our health and well-being.

Discovering our balance allows us to release tension and stay relaxed. Upright, we keep our feet flat on the ground, our head-tops as if suspended from above, and our abdomens relaxed with breath flowing naturally. We train in such alignment in order to learn how to move with stability, finding harmony with the circumstances of our lives, gradually, gradually.

The three pillars of our study are Form, Sensing Hands, and Sword.
